Martell’s Journey through the Summer of 2012

The summer of 2012 was a blast for us and all of our guests at Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant! We had so much fun partying and enjoying the beach with you all, and we look forward to keeping the party going all year long! As this weekend marks the official start to fall, we’re recapping with a tribute to the summer of 2012!

Once every four years we gather all of our USA pride and set eyes on the television to root for our favorite sports in the summer Olympics. The 2012 Summer Olympics began on July 27 and ended on August 12. Michael Phelps became the most decorated Olympian of all time and the world watched as the U.S. gymnastics team dominated the sport.

Both in and out of the box office, Batman’s “The Dark Knight Rises” made headlines. Grossing over $1 billion worldwide, fans loved the return of Christian Bale and his response to the tragedy in the movie theater in Colorado.

We loved dancing to all of the hottest music this summer. Can you guess what the top 5 songs of the summer of 2012 were?

The Fun Continues at Martell’s

It might be the end of August on the calendar, but we’re still going strong here at Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant. We’re prepared to leave August with a bang, and we know you will be right there with us! Check out what we have going on between now and Labor Day at Tiki.

THIS WEEK

This Thursday and Friday are predicted for some great weather and Thursday, the 24^th we’ve got Jamie Brown Experience playing at 2 p.m. and Sensational Soul Cruisers at 9:30 p.m. Friday, the 25^th come check out Mike Dalton Trio in the afternoon and JoBonanno and the Godsons at night!

NEXT WEEK

Next Monday and Tuesday, the 27^th and 28^th, Tiki is gearing up for Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes playing both days at 8 p.m. If you’ve never seen the Asbury Jukes or Southside Johnny, you should definitely make it a point to see this great show!

LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Saturday, September 1^st kicks off Labor Day weekend at Martell’s with Dr. Cheeko at 12:30 and Big Bang Baby at 9 p.m. Dr. Cheeko comes back on Sunday, the 2^nd at the same time followed by Gypsy Wisdom at 8 p.m. and Labor Day goes off with some more great tracks with Dr. Cheeko and Don’t Call Me Francis playing at 7 p.m. It’s going to be an awesome weekend, and we can’t wait to share yet another great Labor Day weekend with all of you!

Beach Safety Tips

If you haven’t seen the article yet, you might not know that some of our very own staff are heroes! This past weekend when a boy was struggling in the ocean being pulled out by the current, Martell’s staff members jumped down to the beach and swam in to save the boy. The boy is doing fine now and we would like to give a huge thank you and job well done to our staff and also give you all some tips for beach safety!

Don’t Overdo It

Swimming is fun and it’s very easy to spend hours in the water without even realizing it. However, the longer you stay in the water without resting the easier it becomes to get fatigued and the less energy you have to swim against the current should you have to. Take breaks about every 30 minutes or so when swimming or boogie boarding.

Stay Close to Shore

When the lifeguards are out they usually keep excellent tabs on how far people go out into the water. However, when the guards are off duty people tend to test the limits and go out farther. This is when it becomes dangerous. Stay safe and stay close if you’re going to swim when lifeguards are off duty.

Strength in Numbers

When you were younger you probably heard this all the time, but guess what? It’s still true! If you’re swimming in the ocean (especially after lifeguards are off duty,) don’t swim alone! Make sure someone who is with you is a strong swimmer and always look out for each other.

We want all of our favorite guests of Point Pleasant Beach and visitors of Martell’s Tiki Bar to stay safe and have an amazing summer! So, be careful out there and come visit us for a drink and some awesome entertainment all summer long!

Countdown to the Fourth of July

The first official day of summer is finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited to party the summer away with all of you at Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant! Can you believe there are only 2 weeks left until the 4^th of July?

In just 13 days we will kick off Independence Day with a party like only Tiki can do.

At 2 p.m. Bobby Lynch Trio will hit the stage to get the afternoon going. RPM takes over at 8 p.m. to keep the party hot!

Don’t forget the best view of the Jenkinson’s Boardwalk Fourth of July Fireworks! Nothing says the 4^th like an amazing fireworks display, good music and your favorite drinks.

To help us countdown, we’re bringing you some fun Independence Day facts:

• Independence Day was first celebrated in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776.
• The first public Fourth of July event at the White House occurred in 1804.
• In 1941, Congress declared 4th of July a federal legal holiday. It is one of the few federal holidays that have not been moved to the nearest Friday or Monday.
• Five places adopted the name “freedom.” Freedom, California, with 6,000 residents, has the largest population among these.

Tiki Kicks Off the Summer 2012!

At Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, we’ve had our party hats on for about a month now, but we’re gearing up for one of the best weekend of the season – Memorial Day Weekend! As of today, there are only 10 days until Memorial Day and the official start of the summer season! If you’re not pumped enough already, we’re bringing you our Memorial Day Weekend schedule:

Friday May 25: JoBonanno & The Godsons kick off the weekend with a 10 a.m. set

Mike Dalton Trio keeps the party going through the afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.

New Power Soul brings gets the night going at 9 p.m.

Saturday May 26: Our favorite Dr. Cheeko begins at 12:30 p.m.

Big Bang Baby keeps it going Saturday night starting at 9 p.m.

Sunday May 27: Dr. Cheeko hits the stage again at 12:30 p.m.

Johnny Drama brings us in to Memorial Day with a set starting at 9 p.m.

Monday, Memorial Day, May 28: Grab those sunglasses, and head back over cause we’re not letting you miss a beat.

Dr. Cheeko returns for the Memorial Day celebration at 12:30 p.m.

Don’t Call me Fancis rocks out your Memorial Day beginning at 7 p.m.

Mother’s Day in Paradise

Mother’s Day has its roots in ancient Greek festivals honoring Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. The modern American holiday began in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May a day to honor all the mothers in the world. However this day got started, Mother’s Day is right around the corner and you want to do something extra special for your mom. Why not take her to paradise? Martell’s Tiki Bar has created a special Mother’s Day menu in honor of all of you wonderful mothers out there! Join us on Sunday, May 13 for delicious food, drinks and atmosphere! Take a look at this delicious menu we prepared just for this special occasion.

Appetizers

Does your mom love seafood? Why not start off the meal with some delicious shrimp cocktail, coconut shrimp, clams casino, seafood on ice, spicy tuna tempura or lobster pot pie?

We also have a delicious arugula and tomato appetizer with fresh mozzarella, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette.

Soup and Salad

Your mother will love our onion soup, or Martell’s own clam chowder—Manhattan style clam chowder, homemade with fresh vegetables, potatoes and corn.

Our pear and feta salad includes fresh pear slices, rested over a bed of California garden greens, Sun Valley vegetables and feta cheese, served with cilantro lemon pepper vinaigrette. We have a classic Caesar salad as well as our Colavita salad with California field greens with plum tomatoes, roasted garlic gloves, crumbled bleu cheese and julienne carrots served with balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

Chicken and Pasta

Chicken and pasta are a favorite of many and just for your mom we are cooking only the best. She’ll love our Chicken Corden Bleu, Lobster Ravioli or cCicken Alissa—grilled breast of chicken topped with asparagus, roasted red peppers and fresh mozzarella cheese, drizzled with a balsamic demi-glaze.

The Tortellini Bella Noah is a delicious treat of cheese filled tortellini simmered in a pecorino Romano cream sauce tossed with broccoli, asparagus and fire roasted peppers.

And of course we have classics such as Chicken Florentine and Chicken Marsala. Top any of your delicious pasta dishes with chicken, shrimp, scallops or crab meat.

Seafood

Nothing says paradise like a decadent seafood dish. We have Salmon Teriyaki, Shrimp Scampi, Stuffed Shrimp, Seafood Misto or Alaskan Crab Legs. Try our classic New England dish—Seafood Newburg! This dish consists of lobster meat, scallops, shrimp and blue crab claw meat baked together with sherry cream sauce and served in a casserole.

Can’t decide between just one seafood dish? Our Sea Breeze Platter includes broiled Gulf Stream shrimp paired with sweet broiled scallops and fresh Maryland jumbo lump crabmeat seasoned with Old Bay then broiled to perfection!

We also have some great meals fresh off the grill such as our Surf & Turf, Pork Chop Murphy, Filet Mignon, Virginia Ham, Rack of Lamb and New York Sirloin. And of course we have some classics for the little ones, because Mother’s Day would not be complete without children!

Cure Your Spring Fever at Martell’s

Today marks the official first day of spring which means we are just one season away from summer! There’s no need to wait until June to have some fun in the sun with Martell’s Tiki Bar, especially with this warm weather!

While sitting at work you may have noticed an increase in day dreaming, a decrease in productivity and the constant urge to sit by the beach and enjoy a sunset margarita. No need to worry, you just have a case of spring fever! Want to know the cure? A night at Martell’s, obviously!

Join us on Saturday, March 31 for our Spring Fever event! The festivities begin at 8 p.m., with live entertainment provided by High in the Mid 80’s! This NJ-based band will be playing new wave and pop music from the early to mid 1980s! High in the Mid 80’s includes members from top New Jersey cover bands from the 80s, Strutter, NPG and Stick Fingers!

We will also have a free food buffet! Take a look at our menu:

Martell’s Gears up for Beers on the Boards

Martell’s Tiki Bar is loving this warm weather, and it’s getting us pumped up for Beers on the Boards! On Saturday, March 24^th, the craft beer tasting festival will hit the Point Pleasant boardwalk and Tiki!

What is Craft Beer?

The American Brewers Association defines an American “craft brewery” as “small, independent and traditional”, with a production size of less than 6,000,000 US beer barrels a year. The brewery cannot be more than 24% owned by another alcoholic beverage company that is not itself a craft brewery! So, basically we get some great tasting local beer made with the love of a delicious brew!

Craft breweries, also known as microbreweries, utilize different marketing strategies than those of large, mass-market breweries. These breweries offer products that speak for themselves based on quality and diversity, instead of gaining attention due to low price and advertising.

The Association of Brewers reported a total of 1,482 craft breweries in the U.S. as of July 31, 2009:

• 962 Brewpubs
• 456 Microbreweries
• 64 Regional Craft Breweries

That’s a lot of beer to taste!

Martell’s Tiki Bar Counts Down to Summer

Based on recent snow events, we are definitely ready for the summer season! That’s why everyone at Tiki is counting down to summer! We are sure all of our summer crew is getting anxious in those winter coats, so we thought you might want to countdown to summer with us! Last summer was such a blast thanks to our great entertainment, amazing crowd, and of course that beautiful beach we happen to be on – Point Pleasant!
